Page 1 of 2 Dear Editor, Please allow me space to respond to an article in the Sunday Express of 31st May 2009, written by Raffique Shah titled Of Pride and Prejudice. Comrade, I read your article and was very much taken aback with your stated position on the Steelband fraternity, where you could so easily pool us with those you see as stricken with the gimme gimme syndrome. I take serious umbrage with that statement; especially coming from the likes of you whom I had believed should have a better understanding of the evolution of the Steelpan and the Steelband movement in this country.Because you seem to be inflicted with this lost of memory, - which I hope would be very temporary – I would take this opportunity to remind you, and those of like thinking, why the Steelband fraternity should not be, could not be and would not be beggars in the land of its conception and birth. |
